Q.  How do I contact the fire dept or ambulance in an emergency?

A.  Dial 911.  Wonder Lake Fire Protection Dist. is dispatched by McHenry County Sheriff's Dept.  The dispatcher on the phone will take the information and send the appropriate responce.

 

Q.  Is an activated Carbon Monoxide Detector or Smoke Detector an emergency?

A.  Yes, carbon monoxide is a lethal gas that is colorless and odorless.  If your detector activates, leave the residence and dial 911 immediately.

 

Q.  What if I have a question that is not an emergency?

A.  You can cll the non-emergency number at 815-728-0088 and leave a message.  Someone will call you back ass soon as possible.  Remember, if it is an emergency, dial 911.

 

Q.  Why does a fire engine respond to my house for a ambulance request?

A.  A fire engine responds to your house for manpower purposes.  In the event that more manpower is needed to assist in transport, lifting, etc.. the members are already there.  Also, all of Wonder Lake's engines are Advance Life Support (ALS) equiped.  Meaning, they carry cardiac monitors, oxygen, medications and defibrillators.  In the event of multiple calls, the engine might be the first responding unit until an ambulance arrives.

 

Q.  What hospitals do you transport to?

A.  We transport to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, IL and Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock, IL.  Both are affiliated with Centegra Hospitals and offer Level 2 trauma centers with 24 hour emergency care.  In addition, the Flight for Life helicopter is available for emergent transports requiring Level 1 trauma centers.
